Why this feels different

  • The core map stays fast and uncluttered.
  • You can zoom from whole countries into actual explored places.
  • The game loop fits the same explorer identity instead of feeling bolted on.

Explorer mode

Move beyond scratched-off countries.

Track where you have really explored with cities, airports, parks, and landmarks.

Public profiles

Turn travel into a public identity.

Share a profile with your map, levels, places, badges, and progress.

Game mode

Come for the map, stay for the challenge.

Geography players get a fast, focused loop that still feeds the same explorer universe.

The data behind the map

ExplorersMap is built on open geographic data. These are the people and projects whose work makes it possible - and the licences their data is used under.

  • GeoNames - the 200,000 cities behind the naming games and Homeground. Licensed CC BY 4.0.
  • Natural Earth - country outlines and the world’s 4,364 states, provinces and départements. Public domain.
  • UN OCHA Common Operational Datasets - boundaries for subdivisions created too recently for Natural Earth, such as Indonesia’s newest provinces (source: BPS – Statistics Indonesia). Licensed CC BY 3.0 IGO.
  • OpenStreetMap contributors - the map tiles under the explore map and the trip importer. Licensed ODbL.
  • Esri - the light-grey canvas behind your Timeline journey map and the Compare map (Esri, HERE, Garmin and OpenStreetMap contributors).
  • Wikidata - museums, castles and ski resorts in the ExploreDex. Dedicated CC0.
  • FlagCDN - country flags. Satellite and road imagery in explore mode is © Google Maps.
